    Individual and group psychotherapy, with an emphasis on Cognitive- Behavioral treatment of:

  • Chemical Dependency

    Group Therapy:

    OAG ( Offender Adjustment Group)

    Purpose: for men and women 18 and up on Parole, Probation, House Arrest (Furlough/FSU), Conditions of Release, or recently released from incarceration.

    Group type: Open group- people can enter and leave as needed, as opposed to a closed group, which starts and ends on a rotating basis with the same members - e.g.- six weeks to complete program.

    Separate groups for men and women, and male sex offenders

    Day and time:
    Men's OAG - Mondays, 6PM, 86 Lake St 1st Floor Conference Room
    Women's OAG- Location and time to be determined

    Male Sex offender's OAG - Location and time to be determined

    Must have initial eval/screening to determine if you are appropriate for group

    Payment MUST be recieved one week in advance in order to be admitted to group.

    Group Rules:

  • Must be on time and stay for the whole group.

  • Must be clean and sober in group.

  • One person speaks at a time.

  • Must actively participate- maintain eye contact w/ speaker, pay attn., ask relevant questions, make relevant comments.

  • No violence or verbal abuse to others in group. This will result in in being kicked out of group.

  • No drug, alcohol, or gang hats/clothes.

  • No racial slurs or female insults.

  • Maintain privacy, anonymity and confidentiality of all members. Don't talk about anything we discuss with anyone outside of the group.

  • No blaming or avoiding responsibility- expect to be called on it if you do.

    Coping w/ life on FSU

    Finding employment

    Trauma/PTSD

    Depression/anxiety

    Dealing w/ family problems


    Chemical Dependency
    Individual therapy for treatment of chemical dependency, including addiction to :
  • Alcohol
  • Cannabis
  • Opiates ( referal for Buprhenorphine ( Suboxone) maintainance available)
  • Cocaine and crack

    Substance abuse evaluations and referral to inpatient rehab available

    Trauma in crime victims;

    If you have been the victim of a violent crime, molestation, or domestic violence, we can work on practical, down-to-earth coping methods and ways of feeling safer again in the world, in a private, individual setting.

    Attention vets of Iraq and Afghanistan: If you are uninsured, underinsured, or on a long waiting list for therapy, bring proof of miltary service, and I will see you for a very low hourly rate for treatment of PTSD or chemical dependency, with a current waiting list of one week, as of June 7, 2008.


    FOCUS ( Facts On Chemical USe)

    Purpose: FOCUS is a brief, four week educational program for young people who have received a civil ticket for PMB ( Possession of a Malt Beverage) or a criminal charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

    Group Type: Closed. We begin and end with the same members, meeting once a week over a four week period.

    Training Workshops and In-services offered to specific and general audiences, and delivered at your workplace or office:

    Alcohol, Caffeine, Nicotine, & your Health- a look at the sources, types, and short term and long term effects of commonly used substances which many people do not even think of as drugs, and their potential impact on our health. For a general audience.

    Basic Chemical Dependency 1 A two hour lecture on basic principles of chemical dependancy- differentiating abuse and dependance on substances, commonly used substances, tolerance and withdrawal, causes of chemical dependency, and short term and long term effects of chemical dependancy. For group home staff, college students, faculty and staff.

    Basic Chemical Dependency II A two hour lecture on chemical dependency including current trends in substance use, physical and behavioral signs of intoxication or recent drug use in a person, and treatment options for chemical dependency. For group home staff, college students, faculty and staff.

    Burnout Prevention A one hour lecture on self care and burn-out prevention. Topics include vicarious traumatization, PTSD, warning signs of burnout, warning signs of alcohol dependance, and concrete, practical ways to care for yourself and keep perspective. For group home staff, attorneys, judges, substance abuse counselors, victim's advocates, EMS, and law enforcement.

    Crime Prevention & Safety A one hour lecture on decreasing risks of becoming a victim of robbery, assault, rape, or burglary. Emphasis is placed on Awareness and Avoidance of high risk situations, and also includes basic criminal psychology, and fundamentals of home and auto security, and cyber-safety. For a general audience. A more advanced version is available in a three hour format for persons who have regular contact with criminal offenders, but are not sworn and certified law enforcement officers, such as attorneys, judges, substance abuse counselors, and victim's advocates.

    Cyber safety. A look at how sexual predators and stalkers locate victims on-line, and ways to increase safety. For a genral audience, Corrections, Law enforcement, attorneys, judges, substance abuse counselors, and victim's advocates

    Drug Recognition A one hour lecture on current trends in substance use, including physical and behavioral signs of intoxication or recent drug use in a person, appearance of commonly abused drugs, recognizing drug paraphernalia. , everyday objects associated with drug use, methods to defeat drug testing, and an update on substances and use trends. A refresher for Corrections, EMS, and law enforcement. A more advanced version is available in a four hour format for an initial training.

    Gangs: An overview. A one hour overview of the dynamics of gangs, and identifying gang members. for Corrections, EMS, law enforcement. attorneys, judges, substance abuse counselors, and victim's advocates.

    Inhalants A one hour lecture on the use of common household products which can be inhaled or huffed to get intoxicated. Topics will include recognition of common inhalants, appearance of a person under the influence of inhalants, risks of using inhalants, and procedures to test for inhalant use in a person. For college faculty and staff, Corrections, EMS, and law enforcement.

    Mental Illnesses: An overview. A two hour lecture on the symptoms, causes, course, and treatments of commonly encountered mental disorders, including Schizophrenia, Bi-polar Disorder, Depression, and PTSD. For attorneys, judges, victim's advocates, Corrections, EMS, and law enforcement.

    Sleep Hygiene: How To Get A Good Nights Sleep Without Sleeping Pills. A one hour lecture to address sleep hygiene; simple methods to help you get good quality sleep without resorting to sleeping pills. It will also include a discussion of the nature of sleep, why we need to sleep, consequences of being sleep deprived, and various types of sleep disorders. For a general audience.

    Smoking Cessation A look at the current medications and techniques to assist with quitting smoking. Topics will include the dangers of smoking, behavioral techniques to overcome nicotine cravings, and medication to manage cravings. For a general audience.
