Individual and group psychotherapy, with an
emphasis on Cognitive- Behavioral treatment of:
OAG ( Offender Adjustment Group)
Purpose: for men and
women 18 and up on Parole, Probation, House Arrest (Furlough/FSU), Conditions of
Release, or recently released from incarceration. Group type: Open group-
people can enter and leave as needed, as opposed to a closed group, which starts
and ends on a rotating basis with the same members - e.g.- six weeks to complete
program. Separate groups for men and women, and
male sex offenders Day and time: Must have initial eval/screening to
determine if you are appropriate for group Group Rules:

your Health- a look at the sources, types, and short term and long term
effects of commonly used substances which many people do not
even think of as drugs, and their potential impact on our health. For a
general audience. Basic Chemical Dependency
1 A two hour lecture on basic principles of chemical dependancy-
differentiating abuse and dependance on substances, commonly used substances,
tolerance and withdrawal, causes of chemical dependency, and short term and long
term effects of chemical dependancy. For group home staff, college
students, faculty and staff. Basic Chemical Dependency
II A two hour lecture on chemical dependency including current trends
in substance use, physical and behavioral signs of intoxication or recent drug
use in a person, and treatment options for chemical dependency. For
group home staff, college students, faculty and staff. Burnout Prevention A one
hour lecture on self care and burn-out prevention. Topics include vicarious
traumatization, PTSD, warning signs of burnout, warning signs of alcohol
dependance, and concrete, practical ways to care for yourself and keep
perspective. For group home staff, attorneys, judges, substance abuse
counselors, victim's advocates, EMS, and law enforcement. Crime Prevention & Safety
A one hour lecture on decreasing risks of becoming a victim of robbery,
assault, rape, or burglary. Emphasis is placed on Awareness and Avoidance of
high risk situations, and also includes basic criminal psychology, and
fundamentals of home and auto security, and cyber-safety. For a general
audience. A more advanced version is available in a three hour format for
persons who have regular contact with criminal offenders, but are not sworn and
certified law enforcement officers, such as attorneys, judges, substance abuse
counselors, and victim's advocates. Drug Recognition A one
hour lecture on current trends in substance use, including physical and
behavioral signs of intoxication or recent drug use in a person, appearance of
commonly abused drugs, recognizing drug paraphernalia. , everyday objects
associated with drug use, methods to defeat drug testing, and an update on
substances and use trends. A refresher for Corrections, EMS, and law
enforcement. A more advanced version is available in a four hour format for an
initial training. Inhalants A one hour
lecture on the use of common household products which can be inhaled or
huffed to get intoxicated. Topics will include recognition of common
inhalants, appearance of a person under the influence of inhalants, risks of
using inhalants, and procedures to test for inhalant use in a person.
For college faculty and staff, Corrections, EMS, and law
enforcement. Mental Illnesses: An overview.
A two hour lecture on the symptoms, causes, course, and treatments of
commonly encountered mental disorders, including Schizophrenia, Bi-polar
Disorder, Depression, and PTSD. For attorneys, judges, victim's
advocates, Corrections, EMS, and law enforcement. Sleep Hygiene: How To Get A Good
Nights Sleep Without Sleeping Pills. A one hour lecture to address
sleep hygiene; simple methods to help you get good quality sleep without
resorting to sleeping pills. It will also include a discussion of the nature of
sleep, why we need to sleep, consequences of being sleep deprived, and various
types of sleep disorders. For a general audience. Smoking Cessation A look
at the current medications and techniques to assist with quitting smoking.
Topics will include the dangers of smoking, behavioral techniques to overcome
nicotine cravings, and medication to manage cravings. For a general
audience.
